Joe joined the First Southern staff in 1985 as the Youth Pastor, and in 2008 he became Senior Pastor. Prior to First Southern he served for two other Kansas churches. Joe graduated from Wichita State University in 1983 and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1989. Joe and Becky's family consists of their daughter Katie and her husband Clay, and also two sons; Andy and his wife Bri & Matt and his wife Emily, and of utmost importance, their grandsons Charlie and Brody and grandaughter Lydia. He enjoys spending time with his family and watching sports, especially KU athletics. His favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13: “For I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”
Pastor of Worship
Alden began serving the local church in 1994 and has served at First Southern for the last 12 years. Married for 23 years, he and his wife Melanie have four children – Hannah and her husband Matt, Timothy, Jared and Nathan and one granddaughter Prudence. Aside from his passion for music, Alden enjoys disc golf, baseball, board games of all kinds, writing and movies. Self-admitted, he has too many hobbies for his own good. Alden’s favorite verse is Galatians 6:10: “So then, as we have the opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
Pastor of Students
Andy has been serving in ministry since 2003 and joined the the First Southern team in May 2009. He and his wife Brandy married in 2002 and have four children together –Carter, Aidan, Brylee and Corah. Andy is a graduate of Kansas State University and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Andy is a do-it-yourselfer with a passion for a good deal. His favorite verse is 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”
Eva has been a member of First Southern for 41 years and secretary for 30 years. Her exceptional lifelong commitment and service has made her a staple of the church. She was born and raised in Oklahoma where she played basketball at Oklahoma A&M College, known today as Oklahoma State University. She is proud of her three children, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
